Princess Performances

Today I was privileged to give back in a great way! Dr Hines, an amazing surgeon at Brenner's Children's Hospital has a party every year for his patients who had surgery that year. Today was that day, where an estimated 44 children and their families joined together to celebrate! All were amazing kids who have had heart surgery of some kind and it was so wonderful to be able to be a part.

I knew of Dr. Hines yearly party, because I too have benefitted from it as my son has had two heart surgeries. Dr. Hines performed the last one, as his pace maker wires had failed and he needed a new one. I must say, that to be a specialist in this manner takes one amazing person and Dr. Hines is incredible!

So, this area being close to home, months ago I had called them asking if I could volunteer at their next party if they needed me to.  You see, I know what that road is like for those families. I know what it's like to walk the road of specialist after specialist to find out what exactly is the problem. I know what it's like to try to keep the faith as you see the obstacles ahead. I know what it's like to see your child wheeled away for a heart surgery where you have to sign a waiver that you realize the potential risk. And I know the joy of celebrating life more fully as you leave the hospital.

It was incredible to be able to be at that part today and to give back in some small way to others who have walked that road as well. Children from babies all the way to teenagers were there, as well as a magician (which by the way was really good if you ever need one), and other special treats made the day even more special for them!

They called it their 'Merry Little Hearts' Party and I hope they all continue to truly have merry little hearts!
